At Art of Swimming Academy, we understand that not everyone feels at home in the water. Our Confidence in the Water course is designed specifically for adults who feel anxious, uncomfortable, or disconnected in the pool. Whether you’ve had a difficult past experience or simply never learned to swim, this course offers a supportive, nurturing environment where your confidence can grow at your own pace.

What to Expect from Level 1

This gentle, small-group course is ideal for anyone who:

  • Feels nervous putting their face in the water

  • Struggles to trust that the water can support them

  • Wants to build skills in a way that feels calm, mindful, and non-judgemental

Rather than using floats or kickboards, your teacher will be in the water with you, offering hands-on support and guidance. You’ll learn to develop a natural relationship with the water through progressive, sensory-based practices that build safety, awareness, and control.

You’ll be gently introduced to key aquatic skills including:

  • Walking confidently and freely in shallow water

  • Learning to release unnecessary body tension

  • Managing breath and the transition between air and water calmly

  • Gliding with your face in the water, assisted or unassisted

  • Returning from a glide to a standing position with ease

  • Floating on your back in a supported, safe way

As your confidence grows, you may also be introduced to the early foundations of front crawl:

    • Front crawl leg kick

    • Gentle arm recovery

    • Body rotation on the front and back
