Crawl for Life Challenge

On the 23rd September 2022, Steven Shaw and other swimmers swam the front crawl for 60 minutes at Vobster Quay in Somerset. This was to raise money and awareness for a new charity aimed at promoting a healthy approach to swimming for neurodiverse children and adults.

A post event update from Steven

Despite all the odds, I along with a dozen other swimmers completed the 60 minute charity crawl challenge at Vobster Quay in Somerset. Unfortunately in the days leading up to it I had tested positive for Covid and felt quite under the weather. It wasn’t until a coupe of days before when I really started feeling better and got a negative test result a day before the event. The evening was clear, the water was around 19°C and the swim was great. I loved the feeling of swimming together without the pressure of trying to go fast or complete a certain distance just to keep going for the hour. During the swim itself I felt completely at ease with the temperature of the water. I just shivered quite a bit afterwards as the outside land temperature was quite cool.

I would personally like to thank all those that took part and thank them for their fundraising efforts, which will create a bursary to fund neurodiverse children and adults and help them to learn the Shaw Method and explore sensory work in the water. Although the event is now over it’s not too late to make a donation as our Just Giving page will be open until the end of October.

Thank you for your support!
