Shaw Method is unique because it is the only approach to teaching and learning swimming that is based on the Alexander Technique (AT). Traditional swimming teaching methods are derived from a competitive swimming model. Shaw Method draws its inspiration from F M Alexander’s powerful method of rediscovering natural balance and poise.

The Alexander Technique works on the relationship between the mind and body.  It helps you unlearn those automatic patterns of thought and action that can have a detrimental effect on your health and wellbeing. The aim of the Alexander Technique is to develop more awareness and control of everyday activities. The AT also helps you develop your coordination and allows for greater ease and freedom of movement.

The AT is taught by qualified Alexander Teachers. In the UK, most AT teachers are registered by STAT (Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique).

To find out more about the AT or to find a teacher near you, wherever you are in the world, visit the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique.
